Homemade custom bicycle rear rack.

I'm planning on using my bicycle more since I'm spending a lot of time sitting on my butt and I really need some exercise but I need my exercise to be more purposeful than just sweating and keeping in shape.

So along with riding my bicycle more I plan on using the bicycle as my grocery getter when I need to make a quick trip to the shop for small purchases.

To make this possible I needed a rack to pack the goods and I wasn't impressed with the storage capacity of the cheap rear bicycle racks and decided to make my own from some hardware I had laying around the house.

I started with a wire rack that was originally intended for mounting on the inside of a cabinet door to add three little storage shelves on the door.

I removed the middle and top wire shelves in the rack, turned one of them around and welded it back to the top of the rack, added some cross bars between the two wire shelves and added struts to mount to my bicycle.

After some primer and enamel paint its good to go.

The wire rack was part of a kit my wife picked up at a clearance sale for $0.99, I had to purchase four 5mm bolts and washers for $1.60, I used some scrap metal from other projects and I used an old can of primer and paint I had sitting in the garage.
